Probe Bougainville coordination office

Letters

THERE are serious allegations being raised in Bougainville on how monies allocated to the Bougainville Referendum Electoral Trust Fund to support the referendum has been used.
Currently, the National Coordination Office for Bougainville Affairs (NCOBA) based in Port Moresby is coordinating the referendum funding.
There are allegations that the money allocated to support the referendum has been depleted even before the actual referendum is conducted on Nov 23.
The NCOBA, headed by Sir Puka Temu and his director, needs to be monitored on the use of the funds.
Where has the bulk of the money gone to when the referendum is yet to be conducted?
According to sources, there are sticky fingers within the office who are diverting funds to other petty activities not related to the core activities of the referendum process.
These sticky fingers are removing thousands of funds from that Trust Account almost on a daily basis.
If investigations prove these allegations, the National Government should suspend the responsible officers.
Perhaps arrest them for creating this serious bureaucratic blockade to hosting an historic referendum on Bougainville.
