ULAGUNAN locals in Kokopo’s Kokopo-Vunamami urban local level government (KVULLG) in East New Britain have called for an independent investigation into the Kokopo Business College related deaths.
Spokesman Fabian Kuburuna said his people wanted the deaths of two of their youths investigated after an attack on students at the college last Monday.
Kuburuna also demanded for a change to the college’s current administration.
He said they wanted a change in administration because they did not have a good relationship with the current management and there were no training programmes targeting the LLG’s unemployed youths.
The college has remained shut after the incident last Monday when Ulagunan youths attacked students which resulted in the killing of three youths from Ulagunan.
Kuburuna added that the college would remain closed until their concerns were addressed by the authorities.
The Ulagunan people are expected to present a petition to the provincial government and administration as well as the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology regarding their concerns.
Administrator Wilson Matava assured the Ulagunan community that the provincial government would give their petition to the responsible authorities.
Matava told the locals that the higher education secretary was in the province to discuss issues regarding the college incident, adding that the college would remain closed.
Meanwhile, the situation has resulted in many students, especially female students, fleeing the campus and seeking refuge outside.
Matava said this had painted a bad image of the province.
The female students are currently housed at the Gunan Na Nuvia isolation facility.
