Progress depends on workforce, says envoy

CHINA’S Ambassador to Papua New Guinea (PNG) Zeng Fanhua says PNG’s development depends on the quality of (the workforce or) the people.
“We believe every country’s development is are driven by the people,” he added.
Speaking at University of Technology’s (Unitech) 54th graduation at the East Taraka campus in Lae on Friday, Zeng said he would like to see changes and cooperation between Unitech and China’s universities in the coming years.
“Exchanges will help enrich students from PNG and China also in experiencing new cultures and opportunities,” he added.
Fanhua also announced a K100,000 donation to support Unitech’s Confucius Institute that was launched last year for local PNG students to learn and build close friendly relationship with China by learning its language and culture.
“The donation is to go towards buying teaching equipment for the university,” he added.
He said the Chinese Government provided PNG with economic and technical assistance without any political conditions, make it possible for construction of large number of important infrastructure projects such as airports, schools, wharfs and roads.
“This graduation is for a new life and it is time for you (graduates) to work for your country.”
