OCEANIA Fight Promotions say it is still keen on hosting the World Boxing Council Asia title fight between national lightweight champion Raka Kauko Jr and his Philippine opposite in Roldan Aldea in December.
Company director Maryanne Millie told The National yesterday that they were making arrangements to host the fight and other international bouts against Thai, Australian and Indonesian boxers.
She said despite the uncertainties amid the Covid-19 pandemic, they would seek the national pandemic controller’s approval for the fight at Port Moresby’s John Guise Stadium Indoor Complex.
“We are doing our best to arrange for the fight and hopefully everything works out,” Millie said.
“For now leading up to December, we will be hosting fight nights for our local boxers to prepare them for international bouts.”
She said Kauko would face Thomas Kagili next month in an exhibition bout in preparation for his title fight.
The exhibition bout, initially scheduled for July 31, had been postponed due to the lockdown in Port Moresby.
“On the undercard of the exhibition bout, we will have nine local fights,” Millie said.
“This is to cheer up the boxers and get them prepared for their international and local bouts.”
