Proposal for LLG tax supported

Letters

I SUPPORT the National Planning and Monitoring Minister and Bulolo MP Sam Basil to impose head tax in the 33 LLG within the nine districts of Morobe.
Papua New Guineans should not sit back and expect our political leaders and our three tier government systems to develop our LLG wards, districts and provinces.
We all should play our parts by way of contributing towards the development of our LLG wards and this country.
On behalf of the 20 wards in Buang LLG, I welcome that initiatives and urge our people to support Basil in making this political change a reality in Morobe and the nation.
The idea of people contributing in helping others in need is not new.
It is our PNG tradition to contribute toward a good course and I believe we can be politically successful down the line.
Our LLG community ward members paying K10 or K20 annually as ward development tax is not a bad idea.
Every citizen of this nation should be made to pay development tax and bank into their respective wards bank accounts to assist in development of our country.
Each LLG ward councillor becomes the ward committee chairman with two males and a female as ward development committees.
Finally, I would suggest here that that we replace the word head tax with local level government (LLG)wards development tax and thank our MP for allocating K10,000 from his District Service Improvement Project (DSIP) funds to each 20 wards of Buang LLG as a pilot project.

Samson C Napo,
Former Bulolo MP
