Protect and restore the environment

Letters

THE World Environment Day on June 5 came and went without much fuss.
The theme for this year’s Environment Day is “Only One Earth”, focusing on “Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature”.
People were busy with election-related activities without much thought about the air that they breath, the water they drink or the natural environment around them.
We have taken for granted the things that make our surroundings a better place to live.
In Papua New Guinea, people are still throwing rubbish every, spitting betel nut into every corner, cutting down trees without replanting, using dynamites on the coral reefs, etc.
It is the little things we as individuals do that contribute to a better environment for everyone.
Next time, put your rubbish in a bin, plant some trees, recycle your bottles and cans and stop harming the nature.
