WEST New Britain has total of 648 cumulative total confirmed cases, 380 recovered and 268 active cases and the cumulative cases for April alone was 440.
This was according to the West New Britain health authority chairman Dr Mathias Sapuri in a statement on Sunday.
“Our ICU (intensive care unit) currently is full and we are isolating patients in lodges and hotels,” Dr Sapuri said.
“Our new isolation facility known as the ‘white house’ will be ready next week to accommodate some 78 patients.
“All our front liners are at high risk of contracting the Covid-19 virus, and therefore, I am calling on all our front liners in West New Britain not to believe the fake news on social media, but read the scientific facts and make an informed decision to take the vaccine voluntarily.
“We will start vaccination in the province on May 5 (tomorrow) with first 3,000 plus doses and followed by the second dose in 12 weeks.
“We are working with our team in Port Moresby to increase more vaccine supply as these become available in PNG.”
