Province plans to resume show next year, says official

TEN traditional singsing groups from the districts in East Sepik will participate in a show in Wewak today.
East Sepik show and events committee chairman Chris Karis said the two-day event would mark the launching of the annual Sepik Show which will begin next year.
Karis noted that the last show was staged in 1984.
“We are launching the Sepik Show for next year in this two-day event,” he said.
“The event expected a bigger participation but not all groups would be able to participate this year due to lack of support from their respective areas.”
Provincial administrator Dr Clement Malau is expected to do the launching.
Karis said he submitted a budget of K200,000 but received K100,000 for this year’s event.
Yesterday, youths from Wewak urban took to the streets and do awareness.
Under the theme “reviving, promoting and preserving cultural values”, the show is aimed at promote traditional beliefs and agriculture from the six districts.
