POPONDETTA Police Station acting commander Chief Sgt Edric Boira says Northern recorded two recent cases of sorcery-related killings.
The two cases occurred between November and this month.
On Nov 3, a 60-year-old-man and his son, 18, were attacked and killed by a group of young men in their community at Ambene, Kokoda.
He said that the son, after completing his grade 10 at Kokoda High, had travelled home and after five days, the group of people in their village on suspecting the father teaching the son sorcery, killed both.
“They attacked and killed them, and cut off both hands of the son,” Sgt Boira said.
“Police were sent to the area after the relatives put one hand of the son in a plastic bag and delivered it to the police,” he said.
Police raided the village on Jan 26 and arrested 14 young males who have been charged with murder.
The other suspects are still on the run and have been reported of harassing locals. Stg Boira said investigations were going on and there would be another raid in the area to arrest the remaining suspects.
He is appealing to the people in Northern not to retaliate in sorcery-related killings.
