MORE than 5,000 people in East New Britain have received the Coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccine, an official says.
Team leader of the Covid-19 vaccination site at the Butuwin Health Centre in the Kokopo, Patrick Vuravura, said 5,266 people had already been vaccinated as of last Thursday.
Vuravura said some people who were reluctant to get vaccinated were now rolling up their sleeves after they attended an awareness.
There are four vaccination sites in the province, including Butuwin urban health centre for Kokopo, Kerevat rural hospital for Gazelle, Nonga hospital for Rabaul and Palmalmal rural hospital for Pomio.
“At first, only expatriates and employees from the private sector with some public servants were coming in to get vaccinated.
“But, as of last month, more people from the villages were coming in to get the vaccine.
“This is good news for us in the province,” Vuravura said.
“The Covid-19 is real and therefore, I want to encourage the people in East New Britain to come forward and get vaccinated.”
