THE East New Britain (ENB) assembly has last Thursday appointed new directors to head its business arm, the ENB Development Corporation (ENBDC).
In a special meeting, the assembly revoked the appointments of the former board of directors and appointed new members.
The only board member who retained his position was Ronald Kuk.
The appointments of old directors William Lamur, Hosea Tubarat, Henry Tavul, Lista Natiuasi, Francis Waina, Abigail Waula and Francis Wagaia were revoked.
The assembly appointed Isaac Minicus, Ronald Kuk, Jack Diuvia, Levi Mano, Daisy Romalus, Ephreddie Jubilee, Nick Lyons and Daniel Rolpagarea as new directors.
The new directors assumed responsibilities straight after their appointments. Assembly chairman and deputy governor Cosmas Bauk said the appointment of the new board came at a crucial time and was needed to correct past mistakes.
“The provincial assembly must discuss any issues relating to ENDBC,” Bauk said.
“This is a precedent for future shareholders meeting discussed in this assembly,” he said.
“ENBDC is owned by the people of ENB and is not a family business or a private company.
“ENB government is the only shareholder of the company.
“Every 12 months, the company must furnish financial statements to this assembly.
“Also any major financial decisions the directors make must come before this assembly.
“Even the salary cap of the directors must come to this assembly for deliberation.”
Bauk said in the past appointments to the board was done using “traditional” means.
He said that has changed and the current board members are appointed according to law and procedures.
Governor Nakikus Konga, though present, did not chair the assembly sitting, because he was on Dec 14, appointed the proxy shareholder of the company.
