THE people of East New Britain are supposed to be benefitting from any dividends from the East New Britain Development Corporation (ENBDC), says Pomio MP Elias Kapavore.
He said this last Thursday during a special provincial assembly meeting to appoint new directors to the ENBDC board.
Kapavore said there had been a lot of good reports coming from the ENBDC, but the people were yet to see real benefits trickling down to them.
“East New Britain Development Corporation is a company that is supposed to be representing the people of our province,” he said.
“Since 1976, after the establishment of the company, we have heard a lot of good news about the company but the people who are supposed to be getting the benefits have not been doing so.
“We have to correct all the mistakes that have happened in the past.
“Enough is enough.
“Let us do what is right for the benefit of our people.”
Kapavore said he supported the resolution for a forensic audit to be conducted into the books of ENBDC and a report made to shareholders.
He said the bottom-line was to ensure there was “transparency and accountability” in the ENBDC.
He acknowledged the court’s decision that reaffirmed that the people of East New Britain were the rightful shareholders of ENBDC.
He and the MPs of Rabaul (Dr Allan Marat), Kokopo (Emil Tammur) and Gazelle (Jelta Wong) were in support of the resolution to appoint a new board, with Governor Nakikuks Konga as proxy shareholder of the company.
