Province’s fire appeal raises over K38,000

OVER K38,000 was raised by East New Britain (ENB) for the Australia Bushfire appeal as of last Wednesday.
Appeal chairman Nicholas Larme said they have a target of K100,000 to reach by the end of the month-long appeal on Feb 14.
Larme who is also the ENB deputy administrator for local level government (LLG) and district told The National that the appeal committee is optimistic on meeting this target.
Larme said donation boxes were placed at the three ENB market authority facilities in the three districts of Kokopo, Kerevat and Rabaul.
He said there were other planned activities such as donation boxes for business houses and financial intuitions such as banks and music concert which will commence this Saturday.
“Kerevat will host the first music concert this Saturday followed by Rabaul on Jan 25 and Kokopo to conclude the music concert on the Feb 1.”
Larme said the first phone-a-thon held last Saturday saw a total of K18,700 pledged and donated of which K5,700 has been received through the BSP account setup.
“Another phone-a-thon has been planned for the end of this month, as the appeal committee will decide by Feb 14, on which charity organisation will receive all proceeds from this appeal,” he said.
