Provincial nines carnival set for Dec

THE Central Dabaris Provincial Rugby League Nines carnival is scheduled for December with 16 teams from 12 zones to participate.
Carnival director and Central Dabaris franchise manager Hubert Warupi told The National yesterday that the carnival was focused on taking the game back to the rural areas of the province.
“It’s very different from how the current nine’s tournaments are run,” he said.
“The concept is promoting participation and inclusion from teams from all over the province and not from just one or two parts of the province.
“Teams will be selected from leagues and various competitions played around the province particularly at rural village level.
“Each zone will play for the chance to qualify for a gold pass into the championship round.
“Zone competitions will played around the province from the west in Kairuku to the east at Cloudy Bay.
“The final championship round will eventually feature two teams from each zone in a 24-team play-off.
“Zone competitions will played from Dec 3-6 with the championship round from the Dec 18-19 in Port Moresby,” Warupi said.
The team registration fees is K650 per team and is due on Nov 13.
