PUBLIC servants who did not register with the National Identity Registry office have been urged to do so when a planned exercised is carried out.
Department of Personnel Management secretary Taies Sansan said around 3,000 public servants in Port Moresby needed to register for a national identification (NID) card.
The NID office has advised public servants to register by the end of the month.
“This will be the last exercise conducted and we are asking all agency heads to send in their officers so that we can complete the process,” she said.
Sansan said the idea for the public servants to register and have NID cards was to clear the payroll system to make it more efficient and secure.
NID registrar-general Noel Mobiha said registration for public servants would start today. He said the NID office would take registration after hours and at night in order to register the remaining 3,000 public servants in Port Moresby.
“Those 3000 public servants out there we don’t know your names but you have to come and get register,” he said.
“This is your chance.”
Mobiha said there was a total of 13,000 public servants in Port Moresby with 10,000 already registered.
