PAPUA New Guinea’s collections of important documents, publications, records and memorabilia have national significance and value and need to be accessed and exposed to the public, a PNG Defence Force officer says.
Support battalion commanding officer Lt Col Roderick Noyamefa said after Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Isi Henry Leonard and National Museum officials recently inspected historical items including wartime memorabilia kept at Murray Barracks since 2014. Lt Col Noyamefa said the items needed to be kept in a proper place in order to ensure it was protected and made available for Papua New Guineans to see and appreciate. “It’s appropriate to keep the artefacts in a safe place so that our history can be preserved, we don’t want it to be hidden here,” he said.
