PNG Air is advising customers that Puma Energy has reintroduced fuel rationing of Jet A1 from May 4.
In a statement yesterday, the airline company said it currently had a court injunction binding Puma to provide 100 per cent of its fuel needs until May 15.
“PNG Air is engaging with Puma Energy to secure assurances that the court order will be honoured.
“Since the last fuel crisis (Feb- March), dialogue between PNG Air and Puma Energy has not matured in a sustainable fuel supply arrangement.
“Puma is seeking to pass risk associated with currency fluctuations and foreign exchange access to PNG Air. “Despite these challenges PNG Air intends to work through the process with Puma to see what can be arranged.
“Notwithstanding PNG Air is unable to continually incur losses and manage operational failures due to interruptions of the Puma supply chain. To this end, our company is pursuing multiple supply options so that the operational certainty can be assured.
“No flights are expected to be interrupted at this point in time.
