Punishment for attacking students: MP

SUMKAR MP Chris Nangoi wants those responsible for attacking students from the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB) attending a community college on Karkar Island recently to be punished.
While condemning the attack, Nangoi said the islanders previously did not have a history of violence and aggression.
A police team from Madang town led by police commander (PPC) Supt Mazuc Rubiang, escorted 18 Bougainvillean students attending the Karkar Community College to town last week.
It was understood that there was a confrontation between male students from AROB and the college principal’s relatives on the island.
“We, Karkar Islanders are people with no history of violence and aggressiveness,” Nangoi said.
“You must understand that this institution being set up and recruiting students from outside Madang is a sign that we are developing.
“On behalf of my people of Karkar and Sumkar, I apologise to the AROB students, the parents and relatives for what has transpired.”
“I assure you that I will see to it that investigations are carried out sooner and those responsible will face the full force of the law.”
Nangoi added that his district development authority was investing in the law and justice sector in Sumkar, to minimise law and order issues and communities needed to support this to make the island a better place.

  • Mr Minister, one more thing, get your people to allow the AROB students to return to classes and host them well on Karkar until they finish their nursing training.
