Quest entrants visit mothers’ ward and give health items

CONTESTANTS in the Papua New Guinea Miss South Pacific pageant yesterday visited a maternity ward to witness activities there and distribute health items.
The beauty queens witnessed the activities at the Port Moresby General Hospital ward, distribute T-shirts and information booklets on family planning donated by Marie Stopes PNG.
Miss Frangipani Hire Cars, Navancca Leeanne Eyres, said it was a great experience to go to the maternity ward.
“I’ve always wanted to come to the maternity ward to see for myself what goes on there
“But I never had the opportunity to and coming here today was great for me,” she said.
The contestants were also given a tour of the cubicles were the mothers and their babies were cared for. They also visited the blood bank.
The maternity ward which is undergoing maintenance has 94 beds but with maintenance going on, can only cater for 74.
The visit was part of their two week itinerary where the entrants took part in various activities from the Melbourne Cup at the Yacht Club last week to visiting Badihagwa Secondary School and the National Cultural Commission on Tuesday.
The crowning is on Friday. The crowning night has been a sell out with all 250 tickets sold out to corporate clients, sponsors and families.
The National Gaming Control Board is the major sponsor while minor sponsors include Moore Printing and Masalai Communications.
Other sponsors who assisted with food and beverages are Hogs Breath Café, Dynasty Seafood Restaurant, Asia Aroma, Fresh Water and Crown Plaza Hotel which allowed the pageant to use its venue to stage the crowning event.
