Question MPs about funds

Letters

THE people of Morobe and Papua New Guinea need to question their governors and MPs about the use province and district service improvement programme funds and distributions of about K15 million each year and especially the K1 million allocations to promote small to medium enterprises (SMEs).
People have the right to question the distributions and beneficiaries of these funds by our MPs.
For instance, SME allocation for Bulolo through the district development authority’s (DDA) accounts stood at K15 million over the last 15 years however, there are no public reports showing the list of beneficiaries or the names of recipients.
One way to stop corrupt practices and mismanagement of public funds by politicians and their cronies is to give direct annual funding to all local level governments (LLGs) with tight administrative and financial control guidelines.
It’s time to do away with the DDAs.
District management authority should take over the responsibilities of district administrations to guide and strengthen the established LLGs.
Most MPs, as chairmen of DDAs have been misusing the service improvement programme funds for their own use, resulting in lack of service delivery.
The closure of few major government projects and delay of new projects and our domestic and international borrowing have been increasing. Our unemployment rate is rising while cost of living is skyrocketing every day and many business are closing down.
Law and order issues are on the rise as a result.
This nation is going through worse times and in need of God-fearing leaders.
I urge all Papua New Guineans to start thinking wisely before they vote in the coming 2022 national election.

  • Publication of Annual Reports by every MP should be part of the anti-corruption drive by the Government.
