THE premier men’s semi-final match between reigning premiers Tamaraws and Snax Saints in the Capital Basketball League was called off after rain disrupted the match at the Hohola Courts on Sunday.
It was two minutes into the second quarter with Tamaraws leading the Saints 25-20.
The CBL executive, after consulting both teams, decided the match be played at 4pm tomorrow.
However, in the premier women’s do-or-die match between Look N Scoop Jazz and Dream Inn Exodus, Look N Scoop Jazz caused a 42-25 upset over Exodus.
Jazz will now meet Saints in the grand final.
With both sides drawn level after each team had beaten one another during the season, it was an important match to decide who were the better side.
The match-up in the first five for was Susan Paisoi, Augerea Gigimat, Cathy Rasehei, Justine Paisoi and Ethel Narua while Exodus had Karo Lelai, Jenny Tia, Lou Feaviri, Susan Kulkulu and Janine Garap.
It was a slow start with both sides looking to take control of the match, with Jazz scoring early.
But there was not much separating both sides as they traded baskets equally amassing more missed shots than successful attempts with a great number of turnovers.
At the end of the first quarter, Jazz held onto a slight 11-10 lead.
In the second half, the formidable Jazz started to exert dominance with power play from Paisoi sisters, centre Susan Paisoi and Justine, in offence.
Susan had her own game plan as she controlled the offensive board time and again as she pulled down the rebounds for the second shot to help her team extend their lead.
Her moves inside the keyway created many opportunities to receive the inside pass for easy baskets as her teammates rallied behind her.
Exodus led by Lelai tried all they could to contain their opponents but their defence let them down and their offensive moves ended up with many missed opportunities and caused a number of turnovers to their own disadvantage. But they scored well through the individual efforts of Feaviri, Tia and Lelai.
Despite the trio’s efforts, Jazz continued to dominate scoring 16 points to Exodus six.
Jazz led 25-16 at half time and held off their opponents in the last two quarters to win 42-25.
In other results: Saints beat Jazz 66-69 in the U20 boys, Jazz edged LBC Defence 47-46 in the U20 girls, Exodus beat Tamaraw 56-50 in the men’s premier reserve, Tamaraws defeated Propest Chariots 27-20 in the women’s premier reserve.
