Rain forces cancellation of POMAFL fixture

A HEAVY downpour in Port Moresby on Sunday disrupted the Moni Plus-sponsored Port Moresby Australian Football League match between reigning champions West Eagles and 13 Plus Cats.
It forced match officials to cancel what would have been an entertaining contest at the Colts Oval.
Both teams were geared up for the contest, but the oval became inundated.
League organisers have now re-scheduled the match to be played at 2pm on Saturday.
The earlier women’s match on Sunday between the Eagles and Bombers was played in dry conditions with Gereka losing 1.1 (7) to 5.7 (37).
The other women’s match between reigning champions Dockers and Concept Koboni started in dry conditions but soon fell victim to the downpour.
It forced players to lose momentum, but Dockers adjusted well to run out narrow winners 3.3 (19) to 2.2 (13).
In Saturday’s men’s match, the Dockers went on a goal-kicking spree, belting newcomers Alavana Swans for a percentage-boosting win 21.12 (138) to 3.1 (19).
In the main match on Saturday, Gereka held Koboni to the ropes but the Demons’ experience got them through in the final quarter to walk out narrow winners 4.7 (31) to 1.3 (9).
