Rain forces CRU to cancel matches

CAPITAL Rugby Union called off last weekend’s pre-season fixtures after the rain had affected the playing surface at Bava Park, according to competition manager Paul Joseph.
With proper drainage yet to be done for field one and two, the second group of matches for the preseason 15s were called off to maintain the quality of the surface.
Joseph said the cancellation of matches saw clubs take a week off with the season scheduled to start this weekend. A women’s division is set to run as well.
“We’re moving straight into our season this weekend with the draw to to be released soon,” he said.
“In the women’s division, we have four clubs confirmed and they are Wanderers, Moni Plus Nova, Harlequins and LCR Juggernauts.
“We are using the same format from last year where they will play 10s in the first round and revert to 15s in the second.”
Joseph has also reminded club officials and teams to be on time for their matches.
Kramer Ausenco Brothers will be looking to win the premiership for the third straight year in the men’s division while Moni Plus Nova will be looking to defend their title defence in the women’s category.
The competition will feature an Under-17 division with greater efforts from coordinators to create a pathwas for young players.
