THE Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) is owed more than K100,000 by affiliated leagues in the Southern Confederation since last year.
The National sighted the confederation’s 2019 report which revealed that several leagues had not fully complied with the PNGRFL requirements and as such, are ineligible to attend the annual general meeting (AGM) on March 28.
The leagues are Moresby South (K32,000), Moresby Suburban (K20,000), Koiari (K20,000), Hiri-West (K15,000) and Motu-Koita (K6,000). The monies owed by University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) Rugby Football League and Rigo are yet to be confirmed.
Port Moresby Rugby Football League (POMRFL), Kerema, Popondetta, Kiunga, Tabubil and Central Premier League have fully complied with the requirements and are eligible to attend the AGM.
Moresby South, Suburban, UPNG, Rigo, Alotau, Hiri-West, Hiri-East, Koiari, Siouposa and Motu-Koita are ineligible to attend the AGM, according to the report.
Buria have been referred to the selection committee on their qualification to attend the AGM.
All these leagues are aware of this as this was tabled during a confederation meeting on March 5 at the Oil Search National Football Stadium.
Southern Confederation director Gwaibo Mairi said the report was presented to all the leagues.
“The truth must prevail so that players and stakeholders know the status of the leagues they’re involved in,” he said.
Mairi said POMRFL’s player registration fees were used to pay for insurance cover for all the leagues.
He said for the sake of development the sport, he had been lenient on the leagues.
“It’s not about revenge against them but the process of compliance that they failed as managers of their leagues,” Mairi said.
