Vice-Minister for Sports Wesley Raminai has urged athletes and officials, administrators and other stakeholders in sports to be cautious and avoid activities that will compromise their safety during the festive period.
The Kagua-Erave MP in the Southern Highlands also shared a similar advice with the people of his electorate when delivering his Christmas and New Year message.
“I would like to send my Christmas and New Year greetings to everybody involved with sports in PNG and the people of Kagua-Erave who I represent as their elected Member of Parliament,” Raminai.
“Enjoy the festive period however, we must be cautious and avoid activities that will compromise our safety and cause problems to those around us.” He said 2017 was a very good year for sports in Papua New Guinea where the SP PNG Hunters won the Intrust Super Cup for the first time, the Kumuls made the quarter finals after successfully hosting their pool matches in PNG, AFL winning the International Cup, cricket and rugby sevens qualifying for the next stages of their respective competitions and most recently Team PNG finished second at the 10th Pacific Mini Games in Port Vila, Vanuatu.
“I am grateful to the Prime Minister Peter O’Neill who has shown faith in me and the people of Kagua-Erave who I represent by delegating the responsibilities of representing the Government this year and I look forward to working closely with the stakeholders and partners in sports for a much bigger year in 2018.
“Let us celebrate Christmas in the true spirit of it and during the festive period enjoy ourselves but be mindful that when we move into the New Year, we do not lose focus on what our objectives are as we set out to better ourselves in whatever we are involved in,” he said.
“Of course there are challenges in life we must do our best.”
