A NUMBER of women in the Ramu NiCo project-impacted areas in Madang have been given jobs to earn a living and support their families.

Ramu NiCo Management Ltd in a statement said visitors to Ramu NiCo’s Basamuk refinery would see the local women in bright orange Ramu NiCo uniforms, and personal protective equipment as they went about their duties.

Three of the women working at the Basamuk refinery laboratory are Apolonia Sawang, Delilah Simon and Quida Leffy.

The three live at nearby Tugyak village and walk to work every morning.

The three said they loved their work because they were being paid to support their families with food and clothes.

Women from Rai Coast also work with the NCS-Raibus catering company at the Ramu NiCo Basamuk Refinery and Kurumbukari Mine in Usino-Bundi district.

Over the course of the Ramu NiCo project construction, the project has employed more than 3000 locals.
