THE Morobe health authority (PHA) says between 90 and 95 per cent of Coronavirus (Covid-19) infected patients treated at any health facility in the province have recovered.
Chief executive officer Dr Kipas Binga said the province recorded a total of 70 Covid-19 deaths, of which, only 20 were under specialised Covid-19 care and the rest were either dead on arrival or died in other wards and later swabbed to confirm the virus.
Dr Binga said the province had seen a general decline in the number of new Covid-19 cases and deaths over the last few weeks, but, could not say whether there were fewer tests.
He said the province was listed as a high-risk province with 15 to 30 new cases reported daily.
“For Morobe, the numbers increased but did so in a more inclined way,” he said. “We’re beginning to see a curve but it’s too early to make any comment at this time.
“The current number of hospitalised patients in the province is 99 while 9,254 people were tested negative.”
According to the Morobe Covid-19 daily situation report, 297 new cases were reported over the last 21 days. Dr Binga said as of last month, 27 health workers in Morobe were infected with the Covid-19, three of them died.
He said they had underlying conditions; one died in the second surge early this year, and the other two during this third surge.
