Recruitment depends on funds: Kalaut

POLICE will begin their recruitment in the first quarter of next year depending on the availability of funding, assistant commissioner of police human resources Sylvester Kalaut says.
Kalaut said unemployed university graduates would also be recruited, as directed by Police Minister Bryan Kramer, but they would be recruited as officer cadets to undergo cadetship training programmes to be commissioned officers.
He said this at the closing of a weeklong up-skills and capacity building training for the police recruitment team from the headquarters at the Pacific Institute of Leadership and Governance (PILAG) in Port Moresby on Friday.
Kalaut thanked PILAG management for the successful facilitation of up-skill training and improving the knowledge capacity of the officers at a reasonable cost. He said the partnership with PILAG was important for police to receive relevant training to improve their performances.
He said the next arrangement was in place for provincial police commanders from around the country to receive one week of training.
Kalaut said there were lots of complaints on social media and from the public regarding police recruitment and training was important to ensure the process of bringing in new intakes was done professionally.
