JAILS will be remodelled and reorganised into specialised centres starting next year, acting CS Commissioner Stephen Pokanis says.
He said starting next year jails would be reorganised.
“We will reorganise our manpower to cater for this,” Pokanis said.
“We will classify some facilities into CS farm centres, CS technical and vocational education training (TVET) centres and CS theological college centres.
“This is also part of the long-term aim to make CS a sustainable institution.”
Pokanis said there would be staff restructure.
He said CS would soon finalise its corporate plan 2019-2022.
Activities and programmes regarding the way forward for the re-modelling and re-classification will all be captured in the corporate plan.
Pokanis said one of the biggest challenges facing the organisation was rebuilding morale, discipline and leadership.
“CS has many challenges,” he said.
“The biggest challenge to me is in rebuilding morale, discipline and leadership at different levels.
“That’s why, with our executive team and external partners, we will put in place leadership programmes for our officers.”
Pokanis said he had already consulted PNG Defence Force and police commanders on ways in which they could work together.
