Police Commissioner Gari Baki, pictured, says the security network system installed to monitor roads and movement of people will not intrude into their privacy.
He said the short and long-range surveillance camera would monitor major road movements of people.
Baki said this after several questions were raised in regards to prying into the privacy of people.
“I don’t want people to get the wrong perception that we are delving into privacy and looking at people – which we are not trying to do,” he said.
Baki said it was not a system to spy on anyone but to monitor road and streets.
He said it would protect people from others who may try to harm them.
Baki said it was basically to support police and the security system during the Apec Leaders’ Summit next month.
He said the security network system was similar to the one widely used in China.
Baki said the county was privileged to have it, as it could easily track down crimes happening in the city.
“It will not only be used during the Apec but later used by police,” he said.
