ANOTHER 14 refugees and non-refugees in Port Moresby on medical grounds were repatriated to Manus on Friday as part of security preparations for this week’s Apec Leaders Summit in Port Moresby.
Manus police commander Chief Inspector David Yapu said the additional 14 refugees and non-refugees were flown out on a chartered flight.
Twenty-one refugees were repatriated at the beginning of this month.
Yapu said 10 of the 14 repatriated last week were non-refugees.
He added that upon arrival at Momote Airport on Manus, the 14 people were escorted by the Mobile Squad 19 with the help of PNG Immigration officers (PNGIO) and camp security provider Paladin Securities. “The refugees and non-refugees were deployed to their respective camp sites at the Hillside Ward one at East Lorengau Refugee Transit Centre (LRTC) and at Ward two in Lorengau town,” Yapu said.
