Nature Park uses Apec to give tourism colourful stage

After four years of redevelopment, planning and preparation, Port Moresby Nature Park has started welcoming Apec delegates on sightseeing excursions.
Port Moresby Nature Park will play a key role during this week’s Apec activities when it gives visitors a glimpse of the country’s tourism potential in its wildlife exhibits.
“Our focus is on representing the tourism industry for PNG and our goal is to ensure that Apec delegates have an opportunity to fall in love with PNG and want to return with their families and travel more broadly across this fascinating land at a later time,” said general manager Michelle McGeorge.
Nature Park recently opened its biggest precinct, ‘Plumes of Paradise’, which showcases 20 per cent of PNG’s birds of paradise species in eight large walk-through exhibits. This also follows from other exhibits which the park has built and opened, including wallaby walk, tree kangaroo trail, cassowary rainforest retreat and multiple parrot exhibits.
McGeorge said it was important for Port Moresby to have a quality, international-standard facility like Nature Park and as a charitable organisation.
The Park had to work hard with the support of sponsors to build the site, which has been internationally recognised and awarded multiple times for its education programmes and tourism excellence.
Major partners of the Nature Park include NCD Commission, ExxonMobil PNG, Market Development Facility, Red Sea Housing and The National.
The Nature Park will be open as normal throughout Apec this week and will play host to a number of Apec and ABAC functions and delegates.
