Refusing employment

Letters

I WRITE being disturbed to hear certain employers (including security companies) in our struggling nation refusing employment to a young person who meets all the requirements but because he is light and short he or she cannot be recruited.
The operation of a corporate body is a room for different personalities that complement each other, guided by policies of the employer and laws of the nation.
It would be good to hear from Labour Department or an international labour agency, if depriving someone because he is short, yellow in colour or light in weight, is a breach of human rights, for jobs that may fit them.
May those in authority come out clear on this and dissolve those employees who are trying to prey on our youths, young men and women.
Some are tall, others are short, some are dark, others are light-skinned, something parents have no control over.
Weight is something that comes as a result of good healthy feeding, which is lacking for unemployed or struggling families.
Where is the equal opportunity employer and its commitment to the people of Papua New Guinea, that Investment Promotion Authority, Internal Revenue Commission, Security Industries Authority, bless to operate business?
Where are the authorities?
Unemployment is a direct factor (cause and effect) to twisting and mingling poverty issues, including crime. We need to see due diligence being enforced by authorities, including awareness, when would this happen.
This is at least so that those breaching be penalised, notices put out so that the public knows, etc, etc.
