THE Waigani National Court adjourned a verdict submission on Robert Agen’s case of assault and rape because the State was not ready with its submission.
State lawyer Soynna Suwae told acting Judge Tracey Ganaii on Friday that she felt ill and was not able to complete the submission.
“The State seeks an adjournment so that there is paramount time to complete the submission,” she said.
Agen’s lawyer John Napu, however, objected to the adjournment because his submission was ready, saying: “The reason for the affidavit is a short-notice.
“Therefore, depending on my time of availability, I am objecting to this adjournment.”
Suwae said the State would also like to produce the submission in writing.
Justice Ganaii said she considered Suwae’s health was important and that she needed time to properly complete the submission.
“I will hear submissions on verdict on Sept 12, 1.30pm,” she said.
“Agen’s bail is extended.”
Agen, a General Election 2022 candidate, from Aregol village, Sinasina-Yongomugl, Chimbu, was alleged to have assaulted and raped his ex-girlfriend Hennah Alwina Joku at Owen’s Corner in Sogeri, Central, on April 30, 2018.
He was also alleged to have assaulted Joku after returning from a fundraising event at Waigani, National Capital District, on Sept 15, 2018.
Agen defended himself.
