ROUND one of the Southern Super League is set to kick off this week with Port Moresby and Kwikila to host matches on Friday and Saturday respectively.
League chairman Bagelo Solien said four games would feature in the opening round at Sir John Guise Stadium while Kwikila would host a double-header.
“Port Moresby Vipers play Southern Blacks, Funeral Home Laumas meet Hiri West, Buria Reds battle Port Moresby Suburan Ducks and Central Dabaris face Koiari Nagavas in the nation’s capital,” he said.
“At Kwikila, Motu-Koita Lagatois face East West Bulldogs (Hiri) and Rigo Raiders host Gulf Isou.”
Solien urged teams to prepare in advance as the season draw had already been confirmed.
He warned team managements, players and supporters to adhere to strict Coronavirus protocols with face masks and sanitizers at all venues.
“This is a Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) Southern Confederation-sanctioned competition and discipline is paramount,” Solien said.
“We will not tolerate any bad sportsmanship and offenders will face consequences.
“This is an opportunity for potential talents to showcase their abilities and prove that they are capable of playing in the Digicel Cup.”
Competition manager and league secretary Indy Verena told all team managers to submit their 18-man lists after they had gone through medical clearance.
“It is important that all the players are medically cleared before they take the field,” he said.
