YOUTH and women groups in Lae have been urged to formally register themselves to receive Government funding.

Lae MP Loujaya Kouza told people at Ward Two where a new aid post was being built, groups formed without the recognition of authorities would not receive any assistance.

She said youth and women groups must be affiliated with the Lae district woman and youth arm.

“Only then will you receive assistance,” Kouza said.

“Government funds will follow government pipeline. We won’t fund unnecessary groups.”

Kouza said last year the district gave K300,000 to some group but nothing positive came out of that funding.

Youth groups have also been encouraged to open bank accounts where the district administration would deposit K700.

Kouza admitted that some groups had done so but no funds were deposited. She said the police fraud squad would investigate where the funds disappeared to.

Kouza told women that she was bringing some  trainers from Fiji to teach them how to be small scale entrepreneurs.
