THE completed Oro Bay Port Trestle rehabilitation project is part of Government’s efforts to restore infrastructure damaged by Cyclone Guba in 2007, according to PNG Ports.

Business manager in Oro Endley Aro said the three major infrastructure projects in Oro included the construction of four new bridges, extension and upgrading of Girua Airport and the Divune hydro-power project.

“The successful completion of the project is a relief to the port, shipping agents, and the stevedoring contractor – Oro Port Services Ltd,” he said.

“Vessel and quay transfer turnaround time has been improved mitigating the safety hazards posed by the collapsed trestle.”

The project cost K137.9 million with the Government contributing K85.5m, while Australia gave K52.4m.

It will include the reconstruction of bridges at Eroro, Girua, Ambogo and Kumusi destroyed by the cyclone.

PNG Ports spent about K10 million for the rehabilitation works carried out by Curtain Brothers (PNG) Limited. The Oro Bay port rehabilitation project was launched on April 10.
