FAMILIES in Dambi village, Middle Watut in Mumeng, Bulolo, whose food gardens were destroyed by landslips during the recent 7.2 magnitude earthquake, received supplies last week.
Dambi ward councillor Labuni Girinde assessed the damaged food gardens and reported to Mumeng LLG president Okam Paton.
Paton then sought relief supplies from the district electoral office and electoral officer Tonny McHaretz delivered them on behalf of MP Sam Basil and Paton.
McHaretz delivered 60 bags of rice, cartons of canned fish and pots.
Girinde said though the earthquake was huge, there were no severe damage or casualties.
“We were shocked by the impact of the quake, thinking that many severe damage will be caused but it was fortunate and we thank God for His mercy,” Girinde said.
McHaretz said the rations were distributed to the affected 11 families and five teachers at the Buvelem Primary School and leftovers given to people, especially the elderly.
McHaretz also asked the community to provide 40 sheets of roofing iron to complete their church building.
