Relocation a concern, says official

THE National Statistical Office will lose all its important documents if it moves into a newly allocated building next month, an official says.
Acting national statistician John Igitoi said they would need time to convert heaps of documents into readable pdf files first before moving out, which would take time.
“We have just engaged a company to scan all our documents and files into readable files which will take sometimes for them to complete the scanning and filing into respective files,” he said.
Igitoi said they were thinking of moving the paperless documents as it would save space and cost less.
“We have already done our first survey using the tablets in June/July this year,” he said.
“That has to continue because it cut costs, statistical processing time and statistical output turn overtime.
This gives us the opportunity time to go digital as well.”
Igitoi said to move into the allocated building remained entirely up to the Government’s office allocation committee.
NSO office was one of the Government departments locked out due to unpaid rentals.
It has now been allocated a space in the Twin Tower new buildings and is expected to move in next month.
