Remote LLG to set up special purpose authority

THE Olsobip local level government in Western will set up a special purpose authority to ensure major spin-off business projects are implemented, president John Uboksok says.
He said the authority would build roads and implement rural electrification plans.
Uboksok thanked the state negotiating team and Western MPs for their input into discussions on the P’nyang gas project negotiations.
“I support them because it’s only right that we negotiate for maximum benefits from our resource developments,” Uboksok said.
He urged Prime Minister James Marape and Petroleum and Energy Minister Kerenga Kua to table amendments to the Oil and Gas Act immediately so they become law.
“We have to ensure maximum benefits are received from our exhaustible resources, while ensuring investor confidence is maintained,” he said.
“Gone are the days PNG was told you can’t trample here or there, or this is non-negotiable and so on.
“The Government has to take stock of past mistakes, identify the loopholes and laydown the rules of engagement and it’s good to see the Marape government doing that.”
