A REMOTE school in New Ireland has received a timely boost from its provincial government with a delivery of a tractor trailer to the school on Tuesday.
Nasko High School, located in Konoagil local level government (LLG), Namatanai, welcomed Governor Sir Julius Chan, who flew in by helicopter along with representatives of the provincial executive council chairman of law and order Edwin Maingen and chairman for community and health Misbil Nelson to make the presentation.
Sir Julius initially made the commitment in 2018 for the new tractor.
School principal Sira Laia said the tractor would help students transport their cargo and other necessities when coming in.
“Thank you governor for hearing the cries of this school,” Laia said.
“We asked the open member in 2015 if he could assist us but after waiting for so long, we decided to ask you.
“You have kept your word
and that is proof of your slogan ‘The further you are the more we care’.”
Sir Julius has been attending to district duties in Namatanai since last Sunday.
He will re-open the refurbished United Church at Huris today and, on Saturday, will travel to Kavieng to officially open the newly-sealed Madina Secondary School road in the morning and then in the afternoon, he will witness the official ground breaking of construction work on the Fangalawa to Lamusmus Road.
“We intend to transform New Ireland into a self-reliant autonomous part of Papua New Guinea that is efficient, market oriented and internationally competitive,” he said.
“Every project we are implementing today is being done with the future in mind.”
