RENOVATION at the police cell and other six police houses in Wau town will start when funds are available, according to Morobe police commander Supt Jacob Singura.
“Currently, the cell, despite being seen as unfit for human occupation, police in Wau have been up-to-date with its cleanliness to ensure prisoners were detained while in police custody,” he said.
Recently, Wau Waria development authority (DDA) under the chairmanship of MP Marsh Narawec, had declared that law and order was one of the priority area in its five-year plan.
Singura also mentioned that necessary documents to secure funding from stakeholders had been submitted and there were possibilities that funds would be made available on the two projects.
Wau police station commander Senior Insp Peter Yambun said police used to clean the cell to ensure it was fit for human occupation before suspects were locked up.
Yambun said Government and other business houses in Wau and other stakeholders had seen these as important projects and were willing to assist where possible.
Meanwhile, Yambun said over the last month, no major crimes were reported, but they were experiencing alcohol-related crimes which police were on high alert.
