Repaying debts

Letters

JUST recently UPNG graduated 1065 students.
They were from school of humanities and social sciences (SHSS), school of Law (SOL), school of business and public policy (SBPP) and school of natural and physical sciences (SNPS).
They graduated with flying colours and received their bamboos, which were proudly witnessed by their parents, relatives and friends.
However, the hardest part of their live is to repay debts of those people who were supporting them in bad times in their carrier in education.
And this is almost a life-time burden.
This can make them to live a struggle life when they are first employed because they have to start from the bottom up, yet those who supported their education will now turn to expect things from them without realising how much struggle they went through to begin a new life.
Therefore, my advice is that, let the graduands settle for 3-4 years when they get a job, ask for their help only when you are in very difficult situation and don’t tend to make quick judgement and discriminate them when they forget your help.
This can help them to settle and build strong foundation of their lives with enough resources so that they can be able to assist us when we are in need and depression.
