THE PNG Customs and Immigration Authority will use 24 police reservists to conduct security border patrols, says Chief Commissioner Ray Paul.
The 24 officers underwent a six-week training on border security and were awarded certificates in Port Moresby yesterday.
“For the first time in the history of Customs and Immigration, we will have police reserve officers in the organisation to assist at the border,” Paul said.
“The work that we do at the border is challenging. And to have this police reserve officers will assist our role better at the border.” He said the authority used to seek police help at times.
“We used to call police to assist and we will continue to do that.” He called on the 24 to put into practice what they had learnt. Police Commissioner Gari Baki told the reservists to wear their uniform with pride.
