Resi-funded projects heading for doom

Letters, Normal

THE Australian government has funded millions of kina for us to implement and establish projects to improve the education system in our country.
However, greedy officials and their cronies are cashing in instead.
I have seen many small inexperienced contractors getting contracts through the back door.
Some of these projects awarded cost less than K100,000 but were marked up to more than K1 million.
Such practices have made a mockery of the so-called public tendering system.
What is even sadder is many of these RESI-funded projects in Port Moresby are not even 20% completed but 80% to 90% of the payment have been made.
While a handful have won the tenders on merit and have completed their projects, they have not been paid.
Because many officials and their cronies are greedy and out to make a fast buck, our children are now suffering.
If this is happening in the nation’s capital, I can only assume that it is also happening in other provinces.
