ROGUE policemen are a public menace and their illegal activities must be reported, says NCD police commander Andy Bawa.

And the metropolitan superintendent has urged city residents to report them to the police internal affairs unit at 6-Mile police station.

A community leader claimed in The National yesterday that rogue policemen were stealing money and goods from the residents in Erima.

Jackson Gevi said a police dog unit was frequenting Erima and confiscating goods.

Bawa said that policemen were not allowed to confiscate goods from the public without good reasons.

They were allowed only to confiscate illegal goods.

He warned that policemen found to be illegally confiscating goods from the public would be dealt with.

“Police officers should not wear uniforms and threaten the public. I’m appealing to the police officers to refrain from such illegal activities,” he said.

Bawa reiterated that the actions of rogue police officers had tarnished the image of the constabulary.

“We are working very hard to rebuild our image,” Bawa said.

He added that police officers must be friendly to the public. “Our police officers are responsible for their conduct.”
