Respect constitution, judiciary, says Steven

National

Esa’ala MP Davis Steven says political leaders must respect the Constitution and allow the judiciary to guide everyone through the mess created in Parliament.
He thanked Police Commissioner David Manning for his recent “reassuring” statement reiterating the independence of the police force during a period of political instability.
“Manning and leaders in the police department are reminding everyone of our collective responsibility to peace and order in our nation,” he said.
“This call is especially for us elected leaders to be responsible for our actions. We must uphold the nation’s interest before the political objectives we pursue.
“The judiciary is now looking at the court cases that should assist Parliament resolve the contentions caused by the Speaker.
“The nation does not need another crisis now. We are in the middle of an unprecedented financial crisis. Our people and businesses are hurting.
“I agree with Manning that the lessons from the devastating effects of the infamous political impasse of 2011 stand as a lesson for us today.
“In the national interest I call on everyone to avoid making decisions that will lead to confrontation and social disruptions.
“We all know that the Police Commissioner cannot be directed or controlled by the Minister, the Prime Minister or anybody else.
“(We) do not deserve political interference in the police force. We already have enough problem with law and order.”
He said “our combined leadership in times like this” was needed “to ensure institutions of State play their proper roles”.
“In the present circumstances, we must not fail our people and institutions otherwise irreparable damage will be done to those affected and to our nation’s image.”

  • Then why couldn’t you wait until after the 2022 NGEs to prove your point. You crossed the floor together with your other MPs and that stirred up everything. So, for you to say and I quote “The nation does not need another crisis now. We are in the middle of an unprecedented financial crisis. Our people and businesses are hurting.
does not make any sense. You were well aware that we are facing ‘unprecedented financial crisis’ and covid19 but still went ahead using tax payers money to hire planes and hotels in Pom and Vanimo to cause political instability! Listen to yourself before bellowing out! Were sick and tired of briefcase carriers like you.

  • Davis;
You sound like someone who is trying to justify himself by making politically correct speech (statements).
    Hehehe, stop fooling yourself.
The Commissioner knows his oaths and he will deliver.

  • Very shallow statement by a visionless, and selfish leader.

Davis, you and your self-centered lot is responsible for creating more instability.

  • Davis Steven, once a role model leader has turned into a “politician” and he is trying to justify his actions. A true leader does not need to speak for his actions because the actions speak louder than anything-even his own words. So stop barking and face the political crisis you and your selfish colleagues have created. Yes I called you all a bunch selfish, power-hungry politicians, because you don’t care what the people are suffering from. Isn’t the concussions of Covid 19 already enough phenomenon for the people? Isn’t the historical economic constrains of the nation already enough disarray for the people you claim to represent? Isn’t the suffering already enough? If so, why another political crisis? Who cares what your confidences are if they are not for the people’s good? yes we the people have heard that “it is for our good”? Dear good MPs respect yourselves and when do you care for our good? Uh? Useless bunch if hypocrites!

  • Dear Davis Steven, you can play blame game and point finger on one side and claimed to be innocent by washing your hands in the opposition camp but another four fingers are returning back to you,you are another incapable foolish mp with no good record in service delivery in his electorate….simply clean your backyard before blah blah blah..
