Restrictions worry club

A MAJOR social club in Lae is concerned about the impact of certain Covid-19 restrictions imposed on businesses.
Lae Yacht Club general manager Robert Hall told The National that the recent spike of the Covid-19 cases had brought on the restrictions.
“The impact has been quite severe. We’ve probably lost 80 per cent of our trading (capacity),” he said.
“Under the direction of the controller, we have shut down most areas of our business.
“But if the restrictions continue as they are now, it will be disastrous for our business.”
Hall said the club had to make a 60 percent cut to manpower but was also ensuring that “no staff should suffer”.
“Last year, we managed although we were operating initially on restricted trading,” Hall said.
“This year we have shut down the major profit centres.”
The provincial Covid-19 advisory committee had ordered that all bars, social clubs, gambling houses and nightclubs in Morobe be closed from Friday March 5 to Friday March 19 “or until otherwise informed”.
