THE results of a recount for the Sohe electorate ordered by the National Court is scheduled to be declared on Monday, once the electoral commission furnishes a report, Morobe returning officer Simon Soheke says.
Soheke told The National that the 13-day recount was completed on Saturday and the team was in Port Moresby preparing a report for Chief Electoral Commissioner Patilias Gamato’s confirmation.
“Situation was calm, we peacefully completed the recount and we are back in Port Moresby now,” he said.
“We are now working on the report which we will present to the commissioner to verify and he will take it to the National Court registrar Ian Augere and the results will be brought before the judge on June 11,” Soheke said.
Monday being a public holiday, that is likely to be rescheduled to Tuesday.
The Sohe seat was won by Henry Amuli from Delilah Gore, the former minister for Youth, Religion and Community Development.
National Court judge Justice Iova Geita had handed down the recount orders in Popondetta on March 23.
He ordered that parties, their counsels and Electoral Commission officials conduct the recount and the registrar to be in the National Court in Popondetta on Monday at 9.30am.
