Rhetoric from Govt alarming, says Pruaitch

National Alliance Party leader Patrick Pruaitch says the Opposition MPs camped in Vanimo, West Sepik, are alarmed by the rhetoric from the Government and its members in Port Moresby.
Pruaitch, the Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister in the current Government who joined the Opposition last week, said in a statement yesterday the economy had been an enormous challenge for Prime Minister James Marape but he had squandered more than one opportunity to turn things around for the country.
“For 18 months, we have waited for the prime minister to be decisive and deliver economic projects to strengthen our economy,” he said.
“Porgera is an issue of national significance.
“When it was closed, thousands of Papua New Guineans lost their jobs – not just Engans and Porgerans.
“The Porgera mine has contributed on average 10 per cent of Papua New Guinea’s annual export earnings since mining began.
“The domino effect of this indecisive Government has seen Papua New Guineans lose jobs and opportunities.”
Pruaitch said if Marape felt that the events in Parliament last Friday were illegal, he should have sought redress in the courts.
“He had threatened the very fibre of the democracy with this move to recall Parliament in 24 hours,” he said.
“Since when do we pass a budget without widespread community consultation?
“Since when has the Opposition not given an opportunity to review and respond to the budget?
“One of our great traditions of reviewing the budget occurs at the annual budget breakfast in Port Moresby.
“All sectors of the community are given the opportunity to hear reviews of the budget from independent analysts.”

  • PP just shut up – you no longer have value in PNG politics. We know you’re outdated and have no vision for the country. Don’t talk about Porgera – what have you done during your time since being elected 20 years ago – have you looked into changing the laws that will bring us benefit from our resources?? What have you done 20 years to create employment that can utilize the employees that were left jobless after Barrick decided to shut it down? Given your experience in politics you should be doing better but you are one useless and visionless politician that have nothing good to give to the country. Pasim traipla maus blo you – mipla tired lo harim giaman blo you!

  • So what PP said is, generally the country is rely on our non-renewal resource.
Which mention of the closer of Pogera mine, are we not have enough resource to have an income and run the country?

PP stop giving an excuse by using pogera mine to cover up, it means you can not accept the challenge and left.
To begin something new it has to take a lot of sacrifices not only the PMJM but the whole cabin as a whole to keep hold-on to what they all have started.

To me its seems that Police Minister BK is about to do clean up on the pile of papers that has been long over due, that is why those mp in government are shaking and they start to shift sides.

  • Wake up PP! You have been in politics for the last 20 or so years and yet your good people of Aitape -lumi are still crying out for much improved service delivery. Its better you fix your back yard first before sneaking into your neighbor’s yard to tell him what he should or should not do.
We are definitely sick and tired of MPs like you who have very little to show for. You held very key positions of government over the 20 year(s) span and did you ever dare to fight for a better deal for the people of Porgera or Enga or PNG for that matter?? PMJM risked it and did what he had to do in this case with the Porgera mine. Whether it will eventuate to reap benefits or not, time will tell. But he took the risk, and sometimes we need to take risks to see both sides of the coin. Being complacent and ‘”goody too shoes” has brought nothing tangible as a country. Please take a leaf out of Sir Peter Ipatas book and replicate it at Aitape -lumi before acting high and mighty!

  • Agree with some points of Pruaitch however, he defected PO with hope to secure the top job. Again he’s walked out of PMJM with the eagerness to become PM. This is pure greed and selfishness. He can try and try again but he will never become PM. The only and best thing he and his NA party should do is to rally behind PNC so PO can allow Mr. Richard Maru to become PM.
And talking about Richard Maru, I tell you “he is a Prime Minister material”.

  • I am terribly sorry for the people of Aitape after 20 years of leak of service delivery and economic growth. The “Catalyst” is still playing politics in parliament and so people of Aitape wake up and choose a good leader come 2022 or you will continue to suffer.

  • Ah ah ah ah ah.
PP, taim JM kamap PM, em tok lo kisim back country.
Na sapos u laik kisim country back, you must gat control lo ol resources blo yumi.
Na pipol mas kisim moa benefit lo ol resource project.
Na PMJM ibin tok tu olsem bai yumi olgeta hangere liklik time pastaim – blo gutpla lo behind taim.
Tasol, yumi less gen lo hangere liklik time but like suffer behind lo longpla taim. Becos yumi laik kai kai!

  • Here is his own RHETORIC
    2017/04/03 Post Courier reported
National Alliance Party Leader Patrick Pruaitch dropped a bomb shell, blaming Prime Minister Peter O’Neill’s PNC Party for mismanaging the economy in the past five years. ..and continued..
.Mr Pruaitch said that last year, the per capita income fell for the first time in 13 years and is expected to fall again this year and keep falling for at least another four years.

  • Hon Pruaitch has been in politics for over 2 decades and has contributed little except for being a puppet for incoming and outgoing governments. Another joke star,

  • One valid point that PP raised is to do with the Porgera mine. If Marape had not listened to self-interested people and allowed the mine to continue operating and use the expired SML as a bargaining chip to strike a new deal for the PNG stakeholders, we wouldn’t be missing out on the rising gold price now. Not only that, the mine employees, contractors and those who depend on its operations wouldn’t be going through this period of time trying to put the ends together after the sudden closure without prior warning!

    • Yea, but the deal has now been made with BNL, there is going to be fair distribution of economic returns when the BNL began operation. This time, when the mine operates, not only the employers will be benefiting but more benefit to the country as a whole. It is all about maximizing benefits, and only a strong government who has a heart for this country and a effective and uncompromised negotiation team will secure a better deal for PNG on the negotiation table.
For now, we hope all processes be finalized soon and BNL to commence operation again.

  • Hon. Patrick Pruaitch, you have outlived the usefulness in 2 decades. What you claim makes no sense at all. Taking back PNG is what we all should fight for.
PNG survived without Porgera and will do so. Only benefit is if we take back Porgera and operate under the new legislation will be great to the country. Impact of Porgera due to shut is just time being as what we got did not amount to even one gold bar, had we, Iso Jasie?
PMJM has a country to run and has no time to discuss on issues raise by out lived and failed politicians.

  • Iso Jasie….I agree with you whole heartedly. PMJM listened to people with self interest and threw the country at the back. One major reason for this break up is Pogera. The move was planned before he split from PM O’neil and he got stucked to it. See what happens as thousands of Engan’s and PNGeans have already lost jobs, business and are suffering the consequences of bad decisions.

  • The people are suffering, while the 111 Members are sleeping and dining in hotels and travelling around the country fighting for power. Just dissolve parliament and call for fresh elections and let the people Take Back PNG!
